The Big Study

The Big Study used to serve as the school building for students. It was built in 1872-1873. It was enlarged in 1888 and burned in 1961. The Big Study was located between the Old and New Chapels. The first and original Library at St. Pauls was in a converted classroom in the Big Study. Surrounding the Big Study were many elm trees along Rectory Road before they were destroyed by Dutch elm disease.

The Big Study burned down in the winter of 1961. The temperatures were below freezing, so when the fire truck came and sprayed water, it froze and formed icicles.
